3 Vital Parts of Child Fitness

kidstretchIn general, fitness is usually split into 3 categories; Strength, Stamina and Flexibility. Here is a breakdown:

  • Stamina is the ability for you to continue physical activities for a prolonged period of time. Aerobic exercises increase your stamina (a.k.a. Endurance). These exercise strengthen your lungs and heart; basically more blood and oxygen get pumped to whatever body part is needed at the time. As time goes by, it will become much easier for your child to breathe during soccer games or dance class. This part comes natural to children during their early stages in life, so continue to condition their stamina so they can live a healthier lifestyle as adults also. A great way to incorporate this into your child's daily schedule is to take an hour or two and engage in an activity that's fun for both of you like: dancing, running around the park, playing Marco Polo in a pool, etc.
  • Strength and power can be increased (build up muscles) using anaerobic activities. Stronger muscles aid in joint support and also reduce injury. We don't suggest children lifting weight, since they are still growing. Attempt to have...

That’s some “Fine Motor Skills” you got there Kid!

Kids are naturally curious about their surroundings and are always looking for something to grab, play with, and even put in their mouths. A lot of times we simply view these behaviors as cute and downright adorable (or nerve wrecking depending on what they are trying to touch), but it is important to encourage this behavior. This behavior helps develop your child’s “fine motor skills”. Fine motor skills are those skills that allow your child to develop the ability to grab objects, write their names, and hopefully teach them how to handle just about anything in life! Although kids are naturally good on working on their motor skills all by themselves, there are many activities that you can do to help your child build fine motor skills. Clay: Not only does clay allow them to work with their hands, but it helps build their creativity. Kids are imaginative by nature and believe they can do anything their mind tells them. You can implement other clay equipments such as cookie cutters and Playdough accessories to promote motor skills to the max. Cutting: Children love to cut and make different shapes out...

Put me in Coach… I’m ready to Play…. Today!

Sports are an essential part of a kid’s life. It allows them to burn lots of energy in a positive and productive way. It also keeps them active and helps maintain a healthy life. Kids who are active when young are prone to adapt healthy habits versus those who do not engage in any sports activities. Sports also teach them different lessons such as team work, responsibility, punctuality and more. Kids are required to be at school on time; complete homework on due dates and may have to work with others to complete a school project. Although kids see sports as fun activities that they can engage in and interact with friends and family, we grown-ups know that it is providing more than just that. It provides important lessons that are important for kids to learn at an early stage so they can be prepared for anything that life throws at them. Sports and fitness go hand and hand without say. As we mentioned before, sports provide a fun way to keep kids active and healthy. Most sports require running, jumping, sprints, physical strength and more. Below, we have...
